Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (RPi4) の性能比較メモ

自分が気にする方面だけ試験してみた。
比較対象は次の通り。
・Raspberry Pi 3 Model B (RPi3)
・Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ (RPi3+)
・Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (RPi4)

ディスクイメージは CentOS Linux on the Raspberry Pi 3 から辿れる公式イメージを利用。
・RPi3/RPi3+ は CentOS-Userland-7-armv7hl-RaspberryPI-Minimal-1908-sda.raw.xz
・RPi4 は CentOS-Userland-7-armv7hl-RaspberryPI-Minimal-4-1908-sda.raw.xz
を書き込みした後に、いつもの初期設定スクリプトにて環境整備を実施、そして自前ビルドの Kernel 4.19.86 を適用しての試験となる。

●試験環境整備
・UnixBench のビルド
まずは必要となる物をインストール

# yum groupinstall "Development Tools"
# yum install perl-Time-HiRes

・UnixBench のダウンロードとビルド

■感想

  • CPU の世代が変わったため、RPi3 系と RPi4 系では Kernel を差し替えないといけなくなった。
  • RPi3/RPi3+ に使われている CPU コアは、インオーダー実行型である ARM Cortex-A53 が Broadcom BCM2837 に搭載されている。
  • RPi4 に使われている CPU コアは、アウトオブオーダー実行型である ARM Cortex-A72 が Broadcom BCM2711 に搭載されている。
  • CPU コアが A53 から A72 に変わったことで、クロック数当たりの性能ががらりと変わった。整数演算処理は2倍に、浮動小数点数演算処理は1.5倍に。アウトオブオーダー実行が可能になった結果、とても性能上昇しているようだ。
  • A72 については、Impress の記事「ARMの2016年フラッグシップCPU「Cortex-A72」」が参考になった。
  • しかし、A72 となったことで、Spectre の影響を受けるようになってしまった。
  • その影響か、Spectre Mitigation を有効化すると、UnixBench の一部のスコアが、10% 以上低下している結果もでている。
  • Spectre Mitigation 関係なしに、一部スコアは A53 と比較して A72 は 4割以上低下している結果が出ているが、純粋に Cortex-A72 の傾向なのかもしれない。
  • openssl speed テストの場合は、クロック数をそろえても RPi4 のほうが性能高かった。
